POINT Fragments 4 exhibition, Manes Gallery Prague 2001

This was my very first step into the world of 3D space as well as my very first experience with exhibiting in a gallery. Until then I would only on paint on walls. Carl Smith invited me to join him in an exhibition bringing together artists from Prague, California and France. They were actually all friends of Carl, who lived in Prague at the time and who was involved a lot with the Stvanice skatepark and Mystic. As it is forbidden to paint on the walls in the Manes gallery I was forced to come up with an alternative, to be able to exhibit there. I remembered my professor at the time, Jiri Beranek, had offered me free chipboards from the Techo furniture company and I could not find any use for them. It suddenly occurred to me that I could cut my Point in those chipboards and screw them to the gallery wall. I cut the letters in Stvanice skatepark and guys from the Mystic Constructions lent me tools, which I did not have back then. The space above the entrance was the only one left for me and don’t ask me how difficult it was to lift the individual pieces and attach them. I regret not having been more daring to spray the piece in brighter colours because it was easy to miss. Anyway, you wouldn’t have probably guessed the first 3D Point was born in a gallery, not in the street.
