Coloured Pavements; Zizkov, Prague 2005I like the pavements project. In Prague we walk on cut up tarmac which has transformed into abstract paintings throughout the years of subterranean repairs. It’s so ugly that it’s almost nice. I just helped a bit. Similar to a child filling in a colouring book, I used to walk through Prague, painting the tarmac patches. This is the steepest street in Prague with a beautiful name: At the Garden of Eden. The pavement here really is a work of art. Approximately half-way through my painting the police showed up. Four cars at once. They got into a discussion about what it actually is and if it is forbidden. A man passing by with his family started defending me, turning it into quite a funny street discussion. Listen what he whispered in my ear as we talked! It was ten years ago and mysterious circles were showing up in the fields. The media were debating whether they had been caused by UFOs or if it is down to the wind. It is an unsolved mystery which got forgotten with time. It was actually this man and his bunch that did it. And I met him just there! My pavements were also a mystery for a while and people discussed what they were and who did it. However, I wasn’t able to come up with such a perfect mystery that would make people think that it could have been caused by UFOs. If you thought that these crop circles are a natural phenomena or the work of UFOs, then you are naive children. Someone has made a fool of you and I know who it was. Do you want to know how it ended up with the police? They took my details, left and I had to explain it at a local office, which produced a smile. I am not sure if it was an understanding smile or a blank one, but it doesn’t matter. I didn’t have to pay any fine and after that I always wore an orange safety jacket and never had a problem again. |
