Patches; Mánes, Praha 2006 / 2007

Patches on Prague's asphalt sidewalks are something pretty mad,and almost poetical. The shapes permeate each other so haphazardly only governed by the wear and tear of time, which creates the necessity to fix the ground. It is a record of time and also a random brutal drawing on the ground. Shapes are created which only need to be colored in, just as children do it in their coloring books. It took me two years before I started painting the sidewalks of my city. Even now it is still a little utopian to me to think about the fact that I devoted one month of my time to ground painting. The reactions of the people were very funny, nobody understood what was going on. Mostly people thought that the gas company was marking spots that were picked out in order to perform some form of repairs.
